So you’ve decided to buy a new pair of boots. Maybe you’re expanding your shoe collection, or maybe this will be your first pair of boots. This video will help you pick the right color. It's brought to you in partnership with Thursday Boot Company: https://thursdayboots.com/modestman
Of course, you’ll need to pick the right type of boot. If you’re not sure about white type of boot is the best choice for you, check out my video about the three best types of boots for men (link below).
No matter which type of boot you settle on, you’ll need to choose a color. While there are many different colors of boots, the two most common are black and brown. Both are excellent choices for almost anyone, including guys who are buying their first pair of boots. In fact, many men have both colors in their collection.
But if you could only chose one, which is the best color for you? In my opinion, there is no universal “best” choice. It all comes down to your personal preferences and situation.

evrybody today say "hay no black on casual shoes" only for formal occasions. I say NO! Now evrybody walk with brown shoes. And colour dont make your loafers or derby shoes formal . Black looks so good with denim and give this a little higher style to the casual look. I like brown , burgundy but this stupid rules no brown in town or black=formal i hate this
I have a bad habit of wearing outdated clothing styles that reflect like i stepped out of the 1930-40's,lol. With anything like a grey suit coat and matching trousers, i wear brown boots or shoes with that style and a matching color fedora, lol. Otherwise ,when i wear actual jeans and a t shirt i wear either black or brown boots, so it kinda varies, depending on the function i'm attending. When i wear desert boots i wear thesehttp://onlinemilitaria.net/products/3427-UK-Desert-Boots/ . I have two pairs , with which i dyed one pair brown, the other black. Anyone could also just leave em as they are (grey-ish) in color and go with that too.
A question to help all the small, slim footed gentlemen! It’s extremely difficult to find good boots that fit and don’t look feminine (not that there’s anything wrong with that.) Is there a boot company that runs smaller? I’m about a 6 to 6.5 in boots it seems, and most places don’t carry under 7 or even 8! Is there hope???
Hey Brock, I have a question. I own a pair of dark brown cap toe boots but I think they are more dressy with a slimmer profile than the Thursday’s Boot you have. Could I use my “dressier” boots in a more casual way the same way I would with a more rugged looking Thursday boot? I would like to use them to achieve a casual rugged look with them. I bought my pair so that they could be more versatile. What do you think?
I have a black feline-buckle guccibelt so I think my best choice is to pair them with black chelsea boots, a nice black leatherjacket and some darkwashed jeans. I think the black one's are more badass and should only go with other black leather clothing. I think I'll buy some cognac monk-straps as my brown dressy shoes. Then, if I like them I'll get some brown boots too.
I preffer Brown, because this color on particular get differents tones, that combine And Match whith pants ,all chinos colors,,chocolate, dark brown, soft brown, honey Brown, caramel brown,coñac,brandy,Middle brown,coffee,etc..You get a lot posibilities to dress any outfit.
At minute 0:23, what is that pair of shoe at the far left called? Any links? I'm not sure why you put it next to the two boots because I initially thought they were boat shoes but are they just brown leather sneakers?
That is a camp moccasin (also called a voucher moc). It’s like a boat shoe that you can wear with socks. Best suited for fall and winter but it can definitely be a year round shoe, and you can wear it sockless since it’s fully leather lined. This particular one is from LL Bean.
I'm in the UK and here where I live at least, I really only see like 80% streetware and 20% rugged haha The new world
And then here I am trying to look like I'm from the 17th Century with a white dress shirt, black leathers and black overcoat x)
Tuyen Hoang BLACK LEATHERS ARE WAY MORE POPULAR, WAY MORE BAD ASS, WAY MORE COOLER, WAY MORE EDGIER, WAY MORE MANLY, WAY MORE VERSATILE(CASUAL OR DRESSY)...
ANY DUDE WHO DOES NOT HAVE A SINGLE BLACK LEATHER CLOTHING IS NOT NORMAL!
there is a nice infogram on the internet, where it is shown that brown shoes fit with every color pants except black. Black shoes do not fit with more than just one color pants. Brown is a no braner for those that do not like black pants :)
What about width sizing? With my New Balance athletic shoes or my more Dress shoes, I order 2E with ((and the Thursday boots only come with a D medium width. Do I need to order a size larger? Or do I need to find boots from a different manufacturer.
I really like several of the boots available from Thursday ... but not sure they will work out?? I suppose they would take a "return" if sent back right away...or maybe not?
Any suggestions? Thank you, Ron.
I saw on instagram that you liked the business "trendy butler". I like the concept behind that business, but I stay away from these kind of businesses since, well, I'm short. I doubt a stylist will be able to send something that will fit me, and I don't think they will tailor anything specifically for me since there is a chance I will return it. What are your thoughts on businesses like trendy butler? Do you recommend I try them out? Do you have any other suggestions of similar companies that work for short guys? I'm your size and dimensions except a few inches shorter.
Chris, Be calm. I actually did have a pair of black Dr Martens when writing the above comment. But they are more of a work boot. Since then I purchased a nice pair of Church’s cap-toe shoes, the Consul. So I’m officially normal. 😉
Great vid. I think I made the mistake with my shoes selection by watching a lot of other videos and vlogs from other YouTubers. Boots usually give you a little more room to play because they also have a purpose during winter.
They should be a bit moore dressy, lightbrown, medium brown or dark brown, is a very nice first pair. Would not go tan brown.
1) Works better at spring and "summer".
2) Get a nice patina with age.
3) Deeper dept in full grain lether.
4) But go kind of dressy with brown.
But agree otherwise, you are kind of right again.
Both appeal to me. However, I would like to know if a pair of side zip pair of boots (Chelsea boot height) in my collection are still in style? Or should I retire them? Please get back to me with your opinion. Thanks.
you are the best , excellent superb, outstanding, magnificent, of high quality, of the highest quality, of the highest standard, exceptional, marvellous, wonderful, sublime, perfect, eminent, pre-eminent, matchless, peerless, supreme, first-rate, first-class, superlative, splendid, admirable, worthy, sterling, fine and awesome video!
Trevor Sebastian Black leather is the way to go! It goes well with anything. It is versatile, cool, bad ass, manly, edgy and hot as well. I'm a black leather cladded dude all the way.
Personally, I think ALL dudes should wear black leather and make shit color leather extinct. They represent real bad fashion sense in a dude.
Not a fan of black leather shoes, brown is so versatile these days it's hard to find an excuse to wear black for me. Unless I'm wearing an all black suit and/or dressed for an event I always reach for a cognac brown or suede book/oxford/loafer.
You don't have to wear black shoes with blue suit to look good lol. If you don't want the extreme contrast of light brown/tan go for dark brown or eggplant, like a color8. Still looks very classy without the 'WHAT ARE THOSE?' contrast. ...I have noticed a lot of guys pairing blue suits with light brown/tan shoes, and agree with @Duke Of Prunes in that it's getting old. Especially when they're clearly some cheap, glued sole shoes.
Corey Saunders Brown shoes with a blue suit look like you are either trying to draw attention to your shoes (why?), or maybe you do not have a wife to set out your clothes every night? Stop being a cheap-ass and buy some goddamn BLACK shoes, already.
That difference used to be a huge one, with descriptive names like Snowball and Patches and cat-specific names like Tigger and Tabby dominating the feline arena. Since the year 2000, though, the dog-cat gap has narrowed dramatically. If you look at the top 10 names for male and female cats today, 14 of the 20 are also common human names. For dogs, the number is 15 of 20. The fastest-falling cat name list is packed with names like Whiskers, Tiger and Miss Kitty, while the rising names include Henry, Stella and Zoey. Watch your backs, dogs, the cats are on the move.
Pet Sex Discrimination?
The narrowing cat-dog gap looks like a move toward pet equality, but a new gap is rising -- a gender gap. I was fascinated to see that female pet names are trending human much faster than male pet names. The numbers in the previous paragraph showed that 72.5% of the top pet names are common human names. That turns out to break down to 50% of male names, 95% of female.
Whats more, single-sex pet names are soaring. The fast-falling names are full of unisex classics like Snowball, Lucky, Whiskers, Pepper and Shadow. The fast-rising names names are almost all sex-specific. In fact, for dogs even the hot non -human names are ultra-macho ones like Diesel, Tank and Thor. Apparently, we want to be secure in our dogs masculinity.
